ANOTHER CIVIL WAR VETERAN LAID TO REST
Albert Ludwig, Aged Stockbridge Town Resident, Ill Several Weeks – Funeral Held on Wednesday
Albert Ludwig, 82 years, died shortly after midnight on April 4th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jacob Schneider, Kloten, where he was under special care for several weeks. He was in poor health during the past six weeks but was able to be up and around. He was confined to his bed two days, the infirmities of advanced age manifesting themselves too strongly to resist them.
Decedant was born July 21, 1843 in Lindewiese, Germany, and in June, 1855, he came to this country with members of the Ludwig family who settled on what is known as E. Ludwig farm in the town of Stockbridge. On February 26, 1864 he enlisted in the army and became a member of Co F, 26th Regiment and Co F. 3rd Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry. He received his discharge from the service in July 18th, 1865 in Louisville, Ky. Upon his return from the war, he worked a few years and on Sept 19, 1867, he was united in marriage at Marytown with Katherine Puetz. They went to housekeeping on a farm in Stockbridge town where they shared toil and pleasures alike and in comfortable surrounding reared a family. In 1907 the homestead was sold to a son-in-law, Jacob Schneider. On October 19, 1915, his companion was called, leaving him to share his remaining years with his children.
He is survived by four sons and two daughters, Mrs. Jacob Schneider of South Stockbridge, Mrs. Frank Nickel of Tea, So. Dak., Henry of Chilton town, William of South Stockbridge, Peter of Chilton city and Frank of South Stockbridge, 24 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Three sons preceded him in death, Albert in 1892, John in 1914 and Joseph in 1920 and one daughter in infancy.
The funeral was held from St. Elizabeth's church, Kloten, with requiem mass sung by Rev. J. H. Hunn of Jericho. The body was buried in the family lot in the adjoining cemetery. The pallbearers were five grandsons, Raymond and Norman Schneider, Albert and Arlin Ludwig of South Stockbridge, Norbert Ludwig of Oconomowoc and one nephew Edmund Ludwig of South Stockbridge. Members of J. B. Reynolds Post No. 205, Wm. Hostettler Post of Stockbridge and J. B. Reynolds W. P. C. attended the funeral in bodies.
