Clair E. Adams, 80, Punxsutawney, formerly of Dora, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003.
Mr. Adams was born May 4, 1923, in Porter Township, the son of the late James I. and Florence (Hawk) Adams.
He was married Aug. 22, 1946, to Helen E. (Snyder) Adams, who survives.
Mr. Adams was a veteran of World War II, serving as a medic in the Medical Detachment 202 Engineer Combat Battalion of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Dora Evangelical Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars 204 in Brookville. He retired in 1988 after working for seven years at Doverspike Brothers Coal Company.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Adams is survived by his step-mother, Mae Adams of Punxsutawney; two sons, Dennis Adams and wife Carol of Punxsutawney and Roger Adams and wife Deborah of Ravenna, Ohio; three daughters, Kathleen Kennedy and husband Keith, Margo Craven and husband John, and Paula Sylvis and husband Wayne, all of Punxsutawney; two foster sons, Arthur Sherry and wife Dora of Leesburg, Fla., and Robert Sherry of Parkersburg, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Mervin Adams and Russell Adams of Hamilton, Carl Adams of Punxsutawney, and Charles Shick of Ohio; three sisters, Edith Snyder of Dora, Doris Smouse of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Mona Smithberger of Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Kunselman, and a brother, Boyd Adams.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of services today at the Dora Evangelical Church in Dora.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the church with Pastor Kenneth Alt officiating.
Interment will follow at Dora Cemetery in Dora.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.
Memorials may be made in Mr. Adams' name to the Dora Evangelical Church or to Family Hospice of Punxsutawney.
