Mervin J. Adams, 91, of Dora, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Mahoning Riverside Manor.

Mr. Adams was born April 5, 1922, in Punxsutawney [sic***], a son of the late James I. and Florence (Hawk) Adams-Shick.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude (Bush) Adams.

Mr. Adams was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Dora Evangelical Church, VFW in Brookville and the 99th Infantry Division Association.

Mervin is survived by two sons, Mervin Thomas Adams and wife Cheri of Palm Coast, Fla., and James Edward Adams and wife Dianna of Punxsutawney; three brothers, Russell Adams of Hamilton, Carl Adams and wife Mildred of Punxsutawney, and Charles "Bud" Shick of Lorraine, Ohio; three sisters, Mona Smithberger and husband Dale of Lorraine, Ohio, Edith Snyder of Punxsutawney, and Doris Smouse of Wellsboro; grandchildren Kim Storms and husband Bob, Mike Adams and wife Tamara, Becky Ciardelli and husband Frank, Tammy Adams, Kelly Lellock and husband Sterling, Roxanne Adams, James Adams and wife Shanna and Matthew Adams; step-granddaughter Tasha Salizzoni and husband Mario; 16 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Gertrude, he was preceded in death by one son, Merle William Adams; one great-grandson, Matthew Storms; two brothers, Clair and Boyd Adams; and one sister, Esther Kunselman.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at the Dora Evangelical Church with the Rev. Kenneth Alt officiating.

Private interment will follow at Zion Cemetery in Porter.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. Adams' name to the Dora Evangelical Church, 2417 Dora/Timblin Rd., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
