Carl "Carlie" Stieben, 84, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at the Ness County Hospital, Ness City, Kan. He was born Dec. 29, 1926, on the farm North of Bazine, the son of Lydia Brehm and Henry Stieben.

He was a rancher and stockman and a lifetime resident of the Bazine area. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Post 392 both of Bazine, the VFW Post 7972, Ransom, and he received an honorary diploma from the Bazine High School. On July 24, 1949, he married Betty Wolfe at Bazine. She preceded him in death April 9, 1993. He then married Ann Bott Margheim Nov. 28, 1999, in Bazine. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Lonnie (Karin) Stieben of Clearwater and Nick (Tonetta) Stieben of Bazine; two daughters, Lora (Eldon) Bruntz of Bazine and Lynette (Loren) Stenzel of Ness City; step-son, Danny Margheim of Denver, Colo.; two step-daughters, Tina (Brent) Slagle of Ness City and Lori Hertel and Bob Black of Bazine; a sister, LaVone Schweitzer Erb of Boulder, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Bruntz; brothers, William and Lloyd Stieben; sisters, Clara Rein, Alma Byfield, Elnora Yaeger, Leona Schlege, and Viola Wolfe.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2011, at the United Methodist Church, Bazine. Burial in the Bazine Cemetery with military graveside rites by the American Legion Olin Cole Post 392 and the Sons Memorial contributions may be given to Christ Pilot Me Hill, Bazine Cemetery Fund and the Veterans' Park Memorial in care of Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.
