John S. Conaty, retired mail carrier and charter member of two local organizations, died Tuesday night at his home, 33 Hodges Avenue, after a short sickness. Until his retirement, 20 years ago, he was employed as a mail carrier for over 36 years at the Taunton Post Office. Many years ago he was a clarinet player for the once popular Lyceum Band. He is the brother of the late Bishop Thomas J. Conaty of Los Angeles and of the late Monsignor Bernard S. Conaty of Pittsfield. At one time he was the national president of the Catholic Total Abstinence Union of America, a charter member of the Massachusetts Catholic Order of Foresters, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. Mr. Conaty leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice (O'Neil) Conaty; two daughters, Suzanne E. and Catherine C. Conaty; three son, Bernard S. and Francis P. Conaty of Los Angeles, and Thomas J. Conaty of St. Louis; and one brother, Joseph A. Conaty of Los Angeles.
