George Athens, 95, of Venice, formerly of Prussia, Pa. died Nov. 7, 2011. Visitation is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. Entombment immediately following at Venice Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his sons Larry of West Chester, Pa., and Richard of Starr, S.C.; daughter Judith of Venice; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
George was born April 10, 1916 in Canton, Ohio to Hilda (Richard) and Nicholas Athens. He was a WWII Veteran, having served in the US Army/Air Corps. George was a member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge, #666, in Akron, Ohio; Venice Stamp Club; Venice Coin Club; Florida Federation of Stamp Clubs and American First Day Cover Society.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelaide and grandson, Michael Athens. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, George will be missed by everyone who knew him.
