The Levi Wild family came to Albion in 1836 from Madison County, N.Y. His wife was Sally Edgerton. The Wild family traces itself back to three brothers who came to America from Wales in 1638 on the ship Elizabeth & Ann. This Wild branch is descended from the brother Ivory Wild. Levi's son John Wild (b. 1810, Salem, Mass) built the first framed house in Sheridan Township and was the second village president of Albion in 1857. Wild Street in Albion is named after the family. Levi and his wife Sally were originally interred on the family farm upon their deaths, but their remains were brought to Riverside on May 21, 1847. A great-grandson, Caleb Wild Hammill, was the namesake of the Shearson-Hammill stockbrokerage and investment banking firm. He is interred in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, NY.
