He appeared in over 50 films over the coarse of his career such as "Nosferatu" (1922), "The Last Fort" (1929), "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1939), "Joan of Paris" (1942) and "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (1943). He died at age 51 after attack of appendicitis.
