RIO - Lawrence L. "Larry" Hazlett, 68, of 319 Knox Highway 35 died at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. Born Dec. 8, 1931, in Rock Island to Harold J. and Helen Letts Hazlett, he married Arlene L. Stralow on June 24, 1951, in Morrison. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Eric of Galesburg; one daughter, Juanita Knussman of Trivoli; six grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon of Cordova and Lester of Austin, Texas; and three sisters, Phyllis Whitmore of Moline and Shirley Finger and Janet Mueck, both of Cocoa Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael, and one sister. He farmed in the Rio area. Prior to that, he worked as a computer specialist for the Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1975. He attended Augustana College. He was a member of the American Gas Association, the Edison Electric Institution, the Data Processing Management Association, the Rock Island Jaycees and the Farm Service Association and the Knox County Farm Bureau, both in Galesburg. A member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg, he was a member of its choir and also served as an elder. He also was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Pierce, Fla., and its choir. He served in the National Guard in Germany during the Korean War. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joseph Cassady will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Hinchliff-PearsonWest Galesburg Chapel. A commital service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association or Tri-County Ambulance.
