Frank Bales, 86, Thomasville, died Tuesday in West Plains Memorial Hospital. He was born May 30, 1891 in Richmond, MO, the son of the late John A. and Elizabeth (Baty) Bales.
He came to Oregon County 79 years ago with his parents where he had continued to make his home. He had been engaged in farming, had been a school bus driver for the Thomasville School District for a number of years and also operated a barber shop in Thomasville for several years.
On Sept. 28, 1910 he was married at Rover, MO, to Mable V. Jolliff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.G.W. Jolliff.
Mr. Bales had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Thomasville for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mable Bales of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Lelia Parvin of Armona, CA; Mrs. Jewell Pierce of Birch Tree, MO; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, an infant daughter, five sisters and three brothers.
The family will receive friends Thursday and funeral services will be Friday in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, with the Rev. Golden Hampton, of Winona, officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, MO.
