A funeral mass for Walter G. Dopson will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Rev. David Braquet officiating. Burial will follow in the Pythian Cemetery in Bunkie. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.
Walter G. Dopson, 82, of Bunkie passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Bunkie General Hospital.
W.G. was the son of the late Walter G. Dopson, Sr. and the late Norma Couvillion Dopson.
He is preceded in death by his son, Kevin Dopson, a sister, Shirley Barton and a brother, Gilbert Dopson.
W.G. is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janell Frank Dopson; five children, Steve Dopson of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Alayne Ducote and husband Daniel of Bunkie, Monica Clark and husband Steve of Evergreen, Neil Dopson and wife Shirley of Bunkie and Margaret Dopson of Mobile, Alabama; nine grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Kimberly Clark, Joshua Dopson, Amie Reynolds, Kathy Brown and Christopher Matthews, Gary Dopson and Abby Dopson; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Cecil of Bunkie and Mae Leomine of Plaucheville; and a brother, Cecil Dopson of Opelousas.
W.G. was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, a devoted member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, a retired Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and charter member of the Adoration Society.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 11, 2007 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie. A wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
