Andrew W. "Andy" Gibson, 85, of Mystic, Ga., died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at the Irwin County Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Jim McDuffie and the Rev. Danny Lovett, officiating. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald. Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Ga. Mr. Gibson was born Nov. 18, 1925, in Barnesville, Ga., to the late William J. and Nannie Kate Land Gibson. He moved to Irwin County in 1984 from Warner Robins. Mr. Gibson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War Era. He was a retired aircraft mechanic with Robins Air Force Base and was a former employee of Flintstones, Pioneer Housing and Ocilla Auto Parts. He was a member of Mystic Baptist Church and Tyrian Lodge #111, F & A.M. in Warner Robins. He is survived by his wife, Dianne G. Gibson, Mystic; children, Glenda (Pat) Masters, Elkins, Fla., Travis (Bonnie) Gibson, St. Augustine, Fla., David (Susan) Gibson, Warner Robins, Susan (Charlie) Munson, St. Augustine, Tim (Melissa) Gibson, Hamilton, and Randy (Mary) Josey, Irwin, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Herman (Dixie) Gibson, Buena Vista, Bud (Ellen) Gibson, Eatonton, and Gene (Laura) Gibson, Bonaire, as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Gibson, two sisters and five brothers. Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, is in charge of arrangements.
