An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on May 25, 1916 for John Anglin, stated that he had died at his home in Johnston City [May 22, 1916]. John Anglin was born in Pana, Ill., September 5, 1856. He was a son of Zephania and Mary [Igo] Anglin, natives of Virginia. His mother, a sister of the late Samuel Igo, was a member of the earliest settlers of Shelby County. His father died when he was a babe in arms, leaving the mother with small means upon which to rear her family. On this account John was compelled at an early age to being wage earning. He did jobs of all kinds, thus lightening the burdens of his mother and at thirteen was the support of her family. Following the death of the father, the family moved to Shelbyville where John lived until the last five years before his death when he lived in Johnston City. For many years he was in the coal and ice business. On Christmas Day, 1880, he was married to Nancy Fisher of Shelbyville, to them were born eleven children, five of whom preceded their father in death. Besides his wife he was survived by four sons and two daughters: Lewis Anglin of West Frankfort; John Anglin, Jr. of Shelbyville, David Anglin of West Frankfort, Roy, Oma and Velma Anglin, who resided at home. There were also two grandchildren, one the daughter of Lewis Anglin and the other the daughter of John Anglin, Jr. A sister, Mrs. G. C. Klauser resided in Shelbyville and a half-brother, Ben Anglin, preceded in death. Mr. Anglin was a member of the Christian Church, and also was a member of Queen City Lodge No. 300, Modern Woodmen of American.
