Jospeh was born in Oldham, England in 1809, the son of William Kenyon and Hanna Hilton Kenyon. He married Mary Butterworth on May 29, 1831 at St. Mary's Church in Oldham, England. He sailed to United States aboard the sailing ship Saranack, landing at the Port of Phil. in 1863. The children (all born in England) of Joseph and Mary were: Thomas Kenyon, Samuel Kenyon, Sarah Kenyon, John J. Kenyon, Alice Kenyon, Henry Kenyon, Edwin Kenyon, Mary Ann Kenyon
