Boutwell Rites At Providence Baptist Church
Funeral services were held at 2 P. M. Saturday from Providence Baptist Church in Lawrence county for Doctor Dozier "Doc" Boutwell, 92, retired farmer. Officiating was the Rev. B. Alfred Jones, pastor of South Columbia Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. Graves, Providence pastor.
Burial was in Providence cemetery with Colonial Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers, grandsons, were Charles, Billy, B. W. and Herbert Boutwell, Bobby Taylor, Toxie Stinson and Watson Reid.
Mr. Boutwell died Friday at 1 A. M. in Marion County General Hospital after an illness of ten months.
Mr. Boutwell was a native of Jones county, born January 26, 1872, lived there until twelve years of age, then went to Lincoln county where he made his home most of his life. About twenty years ago he returned to this area and resided in Baxterville. About five years ago he came to Columbia and had made his home on Dale Street. After his health failed some months ago his daughter Mrs. Tommie Reid of Hattiesburg, had resided here with him.
He was a Baptist and attended South Columbia Baptist Church.
Three children preceded him in death, two sons, Robert at the age of 13 years and Van who died 13 years ago, and a daughter, Mrs. Jessie Harris, who died 4 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie Powell Boutwell of Baxterville; four daughters, Mrs. Sue Farnham of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Dot Hess of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mrs. Tommie Reid of Hattiesburg and Mrs. Ina Boutwell of McComb; one son, Homer Boutwell of Franklinton, La.; one brother, Pink Boutwell of Petal; 27 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

I have no idea who is is responsible for this obit but it is not accurate, WWI Draft registration and other records indicate Doc was born in Brookhaven rather than Jones County. I attended the funeral as did my father and grandfather.
