One of the most interesting cases tried at this term of court was of John Sutlief vs Claudia Sutlief, his wife. Sutlief is a man along about 57 years of age. he married an Atchison county girl and they have a son 35 years of age and a married daughter. They separated some years ago and as part of the alimony he gave a mortgage note amounting to $5,150. Later Mr. Sutlief married again and was again divorced from his second wife. his first love then looked good to him and they were married. The still consider themselves man and wife. The tangle over the note is what brought them to court.
Sutlief alleges the he paid the $5,150 and never got the note. He alleged that his wife sold the note to someone else and he had to pay it again. She brought evidence to show that the money that he gave her was in consideration of marriage and that the note was still hers.
The Sutlief family is a wealthy one owning land in Monticello Township, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The land now is equally between two . . .
The trial took Monday and Tuesday and the jury found for the defendant, Mrs. Sutlief.
