Obituary found in the Brenham Banner Press on Monday, November 2, 1970 reads as follows: "Edwin Boortz, 60, of 414 West 17th St., Houston, died in a Houston hospital Saturday at 4:10 a.m.

Funeral services will be held at the St. John's Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill Tuesday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. A. J. Mohr officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Brenham Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include eight children, Mrs. Clemence J. (Mary Alice) Kubeczka, Mrs. Gus (Joyce Elaine) Pankonien, Edwin Boortz, Jr. and Kerry K. Boortz, both of Houston, Ronnie Boortz, in the service in Viet Nam, Larry Boortz, Darrell Boortz and Miss Sue Ann Boortz, all of Houston; two brothers, Louis Boortz of Houston and Henry Boortz; five sisters, Mrs. Erich Witt (Lillie) of Prairie Hill, Mrs. Pete (Ella) Schoenemann of Somerville, Mrs. Erwin (Hilda) Dahse of Waller, Miss Elsie Boortz of New Orleans, LA, and Miss Helen Boortz of San Francisco, Calif; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Two sisters preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Floyd Grebe, Clarence Witt, Thomas Boortz, Andy Kammerer, Burney Krause, Charlie Hahn, Sr., Herbert Hahn and Fred Schroeder.

Born at Mound Hill, Washington County, Texas, May 27, 1910, the son of the late Henry and Mathilda Hahn Boortz, he was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. He was educated in the Mound Hill Community school, and was a carpenter.

He was married to Rosie Mary Strahan March 12, 1942."
