Martha was the daughter of Jason and Rose Snyder Spaulding from Michigan and had an eighth grade education. Following her mother's death, her father married Augusta Kreger in 1912. Martha had sisters Margaret and Gertrude. She married Alva Cook on 31 May 1924 in Adrian, Michigan, and they had Phyliss, Jack, Ronald, Joyce, Roger, Sue, and James. Martha died from a coronary thrombosis at the age of 68 years 4 months and 13 days.
