Albert Gallatin attended the public schools and was there educated. He was a miller for several years at Broadbrook, East Windsor, Connecticut . He owned a small place in Granville, Massachusetts , also conducted a boot and shoe business. He spent his last years in Collinsville with his children.

Early education East Granville, Massachusetts . He began work at 10 years old, age 16 "bought his time" of his father, working in summer for various employers and attending the district and high schools in winter.
In Northern New Jersey, he taught school 2 years. Then 2 years worked for United States armory at Springfield, Mass. , 3 mos Armory at Watertown, New York . 1865 came to Collinsville, CT,to work for the Collins Company as a steel forger. In 1870,with Samuel Henry(brother) as partner,in the seed trade (Augusta, New Jersey for 1 year, 7 years in Virginia) . He owned a plantation of 200 acres and large tracts of wood land in Loudon county, Virginia. The seed business required extensive travel (visted 26 States)Returned to Collinsville about 1880 after sold his plantation and timber lands in the south. 1884 moved to Winsted, CT. While in Winsted he engaged in the flour and feed business.He also spent 14 years in the real estate business, handling farm and suburban properties. He is a member of Village Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, Collinsville , and is a past master; member of the Ancient Order of United Workmen. In politics he is a Republican.
Married 1 December 6, 1870 , Alwilda Shotwell, (father James Shotwell, mother Sarah J. (Roe), of Sussex county, New Jersey . She died February 26, 1882 , at Collinsville, CT , age 35 years. Children, all born in Loudon county, Virginia
