F.P. Montgomery Dead At 66
SOUTH SHAFTSBURY - Forrest P. Montgomery, 66, Shaftsbury selectman for ** years and former water commissioner, died early Sunday in Putnam Memorial Hospital, Bennington, where he had been a patient since Friday.
Mr. Montgomery, a well known resident here, was born Aug 13, 1892 in Shaftsbury, son of the late Robert and Julia (Buck) Montgomery. He had always made his home in Shaftsbury, where he received his early education. He had also attended Troy Business College.
On April 13, 1913, he married Laura Towsley in Dorset, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. George Gilbert. They moved to the family farm in Shaftsbury, where they stayed for six years. They then moved to their own farm where they lived until Mr. Montgomery retired nine years ago.
Mr. Montgomery was a member of Taconic Grange and also of Red Mountain Lodge, F and A.M.
Survivors besides his wife include a brother, Harry P. Montgomery, South Shaftsbury; two sisters, Mrs. Melvin Harrington and Mrs. Ezekiel Cross, both of Bennington.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 am at the Montgomery home. Burial will be in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury.
