Christof Brose was born in Arnsfelde, Deutsche Krone, West Prussia. He married Johanna Priebe in 1833, and she bore nine children, four of whom came to the US. Johanna died in 1854, and Christof then married Caroline Winkelmann (7 Mar 1855), who bore an additional seven children, three of whom survived to emigrate in 1868. The seventh child, Alwine, was born in Wisconsin. Christof lived in Crystal Lake, WI, and is buried in the St John's Lutheran (Budsin) Cemetery with his second wife and their daughter, Alwine. He was buried on 10 Oct 1894.
