MRS. ABDILL DIES IN ABINGDON HOME
Mrs. Melissa Abdill, 76, wife of J.F. Abdill, died today at noon in her home of Fearing avenue in Abingdon. She had been ill for the last seven months.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Tarrant Funeral home, Abingdon, with the Rev. L. Hadaway of the Christian church in charge of the rites. Burial will be in Abingdon cemetery. Friends may call any time up to the funeral at the Tarrant Funeral home.
Born Sept. 29, 1863 in Berwick township, west of Abingdon in Warren county she was the daughter of James O. and Martha Carr. She was married to J.F. Abdill in September of 1885 in Henderson county. She had been a resident of Abingdon most all of her life. Her parents, three sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Survivors are the husband; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Mosser and Mrs. Ford Perry, of Abingdon, a grandchild, James F. Perry of Abingdon; three sisters, Mrs. H.L. Shirley of Lockridge, Ia., and Mrs. George Duke of Davenport, Ia., and two brothers, James A. Carr of Greeley, Colo. and Arnold B. Carr of Brighton, Ia.

Funeral services for Mrs. J.F. Abdill were held at the Tarrant Funeral home Monday afternoon in charge of the Rev. L. Hadaway, pastor of the Christian church of Abingdon. Organ selections were played by Mrs. Frank Graves.
Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Otis Rush, Mrs. J.W. Lucas, Mrs. Ralph Niles, Mrs. Ira Benson, Mrs. Charles Caulkins, Mrs. Myrtle Dawdy. Casketbearers were nephews - Charles Pence, Arnold Pence, Arnold B. Carr Jr., Lewis Duke, Cleo Harris, Harley C. Shoemaker. Interment was in the Abingdon cemetery.
Melissa Alice Carr, daughter of James O. and Martha Warner Carr, was born in Berwick township in Warren county, Ill., on Sept. 29, 1863. She passed away at her home in Abingdon at noon on Dec. 2, 1939, at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 3 days, following a paralytic stroke suffered six months ago. At the age of 12 years her parents moved to a farm near Rozetta, Ill., where she lived until her marriage. She attended the public schools both in Berwick township and in Rozetta.
On Sept. 10, 1885, she was united in marriage to James Franklin Abdill. The first four years of their married life was spent on a farm near Rozetta. They moved in 1889 to a farm near Washington, Ia. They resided there until 1908, when they moved to their present home near Abingdon.
Mrs. Abdill is survived by her husband and two of their five children - Mrs. Lloyd L. Mosser and Mrs. Ford B. Perry, both of Abingdon. the deceased are Hiram, Glenn and Bessie. In April 1937, her then only grandson 8-year-old Robert Earl Fogerson, met with accidental death, and she never became reconciled to the fact that he had to be taken. Since Robert's passing, she had been blessed with another grandson, James Franklin Perry.
The surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. H.L. Shirley, Lockridge, Ia.; Mrs. Dora Ralls, Nampa, Ida.; Mrs. George Duke, Davenport, Ia.; James A. Carr, Greeley, Colo., and Arnold B. Carr, Brighton, Ia. Her parents, three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Mrs. Abdill and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 10, 1935.
