Minnie May Carr was born in February 1870 in Berwick, Illinois, the 10th child of James Otha Carr and Martha Pearl Warner. She married George Lewis Duke in 1889 in Warren, Illinois. By 1910, they had moved from Rozetta, Illinois to Washington, Iowa. Together they had eight children, six sons and two daughters. One son, William Bryan "Billy" Duke died at age 5. Billy was a twin to Theodore Roosvelt Duke.
At the time of her death, she was living with her son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Mary Duke in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Minnie died on 06 March 1957, having lived a long life of 87 years and was buried in
the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.
