Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 pm EST Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Ashland Terrace Christian Church with visitation from 3:00 until the time of service. A private burial will be held Wednesday at Sequatchie County Memorial Gardens.
Roy Walter "Sonny" Anglin, 84, of Hixson, passed away August 29, 2011 at his home. He was currently a member of Ashland Terrace Christian Church where he served as: Chairman of the Board; Elder, Deacon, Youth Leader, Secretary; Adult Sunday School Teacher and Chair of numerous committees; and even sang in the choir until they discovered he couldn't sing. He attended Texas Tech, Texas Christian, and Armstrong Universities, and was a graduate of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Honors he received include: Elder emeritus-Ashland Terrace Christian Church; Master Mason AF&AM; Order of the Arrow; Institute of Certified Professional Managers; Past President-International Management Council, Savannah, GA; Past President Kiwanis Club, Savannah, GA; Christian Youth Fellowship Leader, Savannah, GA and Chattanooga, TN. Mr. Anglin worked for Armour Food Oils, Ft. Worth, TX; Hunt Wesson, Savannah, GA; and Swift Edible Oil Company, Chattanooga, TN. In 1945-46, he worked as an electrician installing radar units in the Ship Repair Basin at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii. He retired in 1992 from Bunge Edible Oil Company.
Mr. Anglin was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Stephen and Fannie Teague Anglin; siblings, Dr. Lenore Frances Anglin Boyd, Steve Anglin, and Floy Nelms; and grandson, Stacey Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Wilson Anglin, Hixson; children, Cheryl Pursell, Lubbock, TX, Mary Anglin, Hixson, and Thomas W. Anglin, Hixson; step-children, Gene Wilson, Morristown, TN, Ginger Dennis, Dunlap, and Debbie Lasater, Dunlap; sisters, Mrs. Dee Rouse, Moab, Utah, and Mrs. Hazel Cowdrey, Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren, Daniel Anglin Seitz, Travis Pursell, Tracey Martinez, Heath Wilson, Lindsey Johnson, and Joshua Johnson; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Grace Johnson, Bryly Johnson, Brayden Johnson, Samuel Ryan Martinez, Zachary Matthew Martinez, Jordan Wilson, Jayden Wilson, Owen Wilson, J.J. Griffith, Riley Jo Griffith, and Kylee Griffith.
