David Shannon Killed In Mine - Former star South Fork football player caught under fall of rock.

South Fork, Dec 23, David (nick name, Shavings) Shannon, the former star tackle of the South Fork football team when it was in charge of druggist John F. Dalton, was instantly killed in the Lemon mine of the South Fork Coal Company by a fall of rock about 10:30 O'clock this morning. His head was terribly crushed. Shannon was going to knock a prop out, just as he did so, the roof fell down on him. Shannon, who was thirty-three years old, is survived by his wife, who was Miss Josephine Nowak, four children, his mother Mrs. Amelia Shannon, of South Fork, and the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Kate Heffron, of Osceolo, Mrs. Lydia Weismiller and Misses Ellie (Ellen), Bridget Amelia, (called Millie), of San Francisco, California, Patrick and Fred of South Fork, Michael of Alaska, Mrs. Mary Hawkings of South Fork, Mrs. Lydia Weismiller of San Francisco Ca. Undertaker Diamond took charge of the remains and the funeral will likely take place next Monday morning, with services in St. James Catholic Church and internment in the St. James Cemetery, South Fork, PA.
