Heart Attack Is Fatal For Former Alfalfa Farmer
Services for Ray Mathews, a former resident of the Alfalfa community, were held Wednesday, January 6, at Jourdanton, Texas. Burial was in the Jourdanton cemetery.
Mathews, a brother of the late Charley Mathews, Carnegie, and nephew of Mrs. May Copus, Carnegie, died Monday in a Jourdanton hospital after suffering a heart attack Friday, January 1. He had had an asthmatic condition for many years but had been able to carry on his work until the fatal heart attack.
A resident for many years on a farm a mile and a half east of Alfalfa, he had moved to Texas several years ago. He had been an employee of a gas and oil refinery company for 21 years.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter and two sons; two grandchildren; a twin brother, Raymond Mathews, Peoria, Ill.; and two sisters, Mrs. Bob Ramey, Centralia, Mo., and Mrs. Eunice Page, Mexico, MO.
Attending the services were his sister-in-law, Mrs. Charley Mathews, Carnegie; two aunts, Mrs. May Copus, Carnegie, and Mrs. Della Burdick, Lookeba, and a cousin and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ile Elswick, also of Lookeba.
