HARTWICK — Mrs. Ethel L. Risley, 85, a longtime resident of Hartwick and for many years proprietor of a store here, died Tuesday at the home of her son, Floyd, on Smith Street after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Patterson Funeral Home in Hartwick. The Rev. Percival Elliott, pastor of the Hartwick Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Hartwick cemetery.
She was born August 3, 1881 in the Town of Burlington, daughter of Benton and Carrie (Bissell) Balcom. In 1898 she was married to William E. Risley. He died in 1944.
She and her husband owned and operated the Risley General Store in Hartwick until Mr. Risley's death. She and her son operated the store from that year until 1965 when is was sold.
She was a member of the Hartwick Methodist Church and the Hartwick Chapter, Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by her son, Ford, of Hartwick; a grandson, Darrell, a student at NYU; a granddaughter, Gail, of Hartwick and several cousins.
Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening at the funeral home. The family will be in attendance between 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday.
