Joseph Pell was baptized in Great Hale, Lincolnshire, England, in October 1598, son of William and Susan (Tipler) Pell. He was a brother of William Pell, also an immigrant to Boston. Joseph Pell's first marriage was in Great Hale, Lincolnshire, England on November 5, 1619, to Elizabeth Taylor, daughter of Robert Taylor. She was baptized in Great Hale, December 14, 1600. He married second Johanna Cocket (sic), in Boston, Lincolnshire, October 5, 1637, and almost immediately emigrated to New England, where he received 10 acres of land in Lynn in 1638.[1]
Joseph Pell married first Elizabeth Taylor, and had two children baptized at Great Hale, Lincolnshire, England:[2][1]

Joseph came to New England with a second wife, Johanna Crocket about 1638. He married third, between 1648 and 1650, Elizabeth (Wight) Heaton, widow of Nathaniel.[2]
Joseph's known children were the first two mentioned previously, and a third, Hannah/Anna, whose birth date is unknown, but was thought to be the daughter of Joseph's second wife.[3] In his will of December 10, 1646, Francis Lightfoot of Lynn made bequests to "my brother Pell" and to "Hannah Pell", who were clearly related through Joseph Pell's second wife, Joanna Cocket. Both Hannah/Annas, mother and daughter, went on to marry two Daniel Thurstons in Newbury.[4] (Note in source: "Hannah could be synonymous with Joanna in this instance and not a child at all."[5]
Joseph died in 1650, leaving only a personal estate.
