John was a "tailor" by trade, but tilled the "acre and a half of land" that was assigned him in 1640. The land was next to his brother's. He married Ellen (Eleanor, or Helen) Pell of Boston and had seven children, all born in Rowley. Their children, 4 boys and 3 girls, all married.
