John Batrie Steiding was the first child and oldest son of Earl Barnhardt Steiding and Marion Dixon Peebles. John was born on Monday, February 5, 1912.
He was a very intelligent man & made many different friends in his life time. John married Virginia Mason, who was born and raised on a big farm land in Oakland, Garrett County, Maryland. They entertained Albert Einstein when he vacationed at Deep Creek Lake, Garrett County, Maryland.
John worked at the Allegany Ballistics Company outside of Cumberland, Md. He had many patents on items that he designed. His hobbies were wood working and silk screening. Every one up & down George's Creek, knew Uncle John. John died in his car while he was driving near the Clarysville Inn, as he had a sudden heart attack, causing him to wreck the car.
John passed away May 27, 1969 at the age of 57 years, 3 months.
John and Virginia had 4 children:
John Robert "Rob" Steiding born 08 Dec 1945 and it was Rob, who had the much photographed picture of him sitting on Albert Einstein's lap as a baby. Rob died 20 Feb 2000 in Cassopolis, Michigan. Rob married Katheryn Trost.
Susan Steiding born 14 Jan 1948 married to Vic Baker of Midland, Md. "Sue" is living in Frostburg, Allegany County, Maryland.
Richard Batrie "Rickie" Steiding born 20 August 1949 died 10 April 1973 in Morgantown University Hospital, Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia.
Ann Steiding born 17 March 1951 married Michael Spataro, living in National, Allegany County, Maryland.
John is buried in the family plot at the R. D. Dean Memorial Cemetery, Elk Garden, Mineral County, West Virginia.
