"Veteran of War Of '98 Is Dead - Seymour W Millard, 64, Passes Away at Home in Dempseytown Friday - Seymour W Millard, aged 64 years, died at his home near Dempseytown at 3:06 am yesterday, from pleura pneumonia. He had been seriously ill but a few days. The deceased was [the] son of Seymour W and Delilah Millard and was born on the Jersey flats near the Drake Well on March 4, 1870. He worked in the oil fields for many years and served in the Spanish-American War with old Company K, of the 16th, NGP. On January 24, 1899, he was united in marriage with Miss Albert[a] L Newson of Cherrytree township, and to them were born 10 children, three of whom died in infancy. A daughter, Mildred Irene, wife of Albert D Tarr, died on February 5, 1924. The widow and the following children survive: Mrs Clarabelle Manross of Titusville, Mrs Ruby Dempsey of Dempseytown, Mrs Opal McIntyre, Dorothy, Clinton and Lawrence at home. There are 7 grandchildren, two brothers, A A Millard of Pleasantville [and] Oliver Millard of Texas, and [a sister] Mrs Malvina Lowman of Marienville. The body was prepared for interment at the E L Cummins funeral home, where friends may call. A prayer service will be conducted at the funeral home at 2 pm, Sunday, followed by services at 2:30 pm at the Jamison Corners church. A delegation of veterans will conduct services at the grave and Spanish War veterans will act as pall-bearers. Rev Roy F Howe, DD, of the First M E church will officiate and the interment will be in the church cemetery."
