Born Nov. 19, 1923, in New London, she was the daughter of Ferdinand and Florence Mumme Broeker. On Dec. 31, 1941, she married Walter "Sonny" Schwartz in Kahoka, Mo. He died May 17, 1988.
Mrs. Schwartz was a graduate of New London High School. She worked at Sylvania in Burlington then owned and operated Fran's Cafe in Winfield for several years. Later, she worked at Planned Parenthood, Winfield Equipment and the Whistlestop restaurant in Mount Pleasant. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxillary and the O.E.S.
Survivors include four daughters, Kay Timmerman of Mount Union, Carol Bartekoske of Waterloo, Linda Bunker of Mesa, Ariz., and Wanda McCauley of Johnston; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Schwartz will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dottie Halverson officiating. Burial will follow at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.
