Calvin ("Cal") was born in 1908 in a house his father built in Salem, Illinois. The family moved to Michigan around 1915, where Cal's father died when Cal was 19. By then, Cal was employed by the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco/Christie) for whom he worked his entire life, rising from a stockboy in Lansing, Michigan, to Executive Vice-President in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He married Josephine Louise Young in Iowa in 1932 and had two children, John and Marlene. He died in surgery at age 57.
