Gertrude Grasdock

Gertrude Grasdock, age 85 died unexpectedly from natural causes at her Fairfield home, Sunday, October 20.

Gertrude was born at Harrison, South Dakota, February 2, 1906, daughter of Wessel and Maria (Vander Ley) Spoelder.

When she was nine months old the family moved to a farm between Dutton and Choteau. She attended local schools and graduated from Teton County High School in 1926. She then took nurses training at the old Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls and returned to Choteau as a nurse for Dr. Bateman.

On December 18, 1930, she married Herman Grasdock in Great Falls and they settled on a farm 13 miles east of Fairfield. Her husband preceded her in death February 4, 1974 and she continued to live on the farm until moving inot the Fairmont Apartments in Fairfield last year.

Gertrude was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1918 and her father in 1937, three brothers; Herman, Henry and Anthony Spoelder. A daughter, Dorothy has been missing since 1970.

Survivors include 2 sons; Orville Grasdock, Big Sandy, and Lloyd Grasdock, Bellingham, Washington, a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Rhonda) Hansen, Spokane, Washington, 2 sisters, Henrietta Magnus, Fairfield and Mrs. Herman (Jeanette) Bouma, Choteau. Seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 24 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church east of Fairfield with Pastor Carolyn Arness officiating.

Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Gorder Funeral Home of Choteau is in charge of arrangements.
