The Moorefield Examiner recently celebrated a century of family ownership in 2002. The current owners' grandfather, Samuel Alexander McCoy, became sole proprietor of what was then known as the Weekly Examiner in 1902. By 1907, he had changed the name to Moorefield Examiner, as it has been ever since.
After S. A. McCoy's death in 1935, his daughter, Katherine McCoy Fisher, and her husband, R. E. Fisher, took over the paper. R. E. died in 1968, and Katherine was joined by her daughter Phoebe at the Examiner.
