Rose P. (Pfannenstiel) Barnes, 94, Kansas City, Kan., died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at her home.

She was born June 17, 1917, in Schoenchen to Andrew and Mary Rose (Gassman) Pfannenstiel.

She married Ralph S. Barnes on Feb. 8, 1946. He preceded her in death March 22, 1989. She was a homemaker, wife and mother. She worked as head of the school lunch program for Sacred Heart Grade School, Kansas City, during the 1970s. She volunteered at the Senior Citzens' Thrift Shop, Kansas City, in the 1980s, and was a true "Rosie the Riveter" for Boeing Aircraft, Wichita, working on B-29s. She worked in various cafes during the years and was a 2002 charter member of the National World War II Memorial.

Survivors include three sons, Michael, of the home, James and wife, Gail, Hudson, N.H., and Jon, Medina, Ohio.; a brother, Eugene and wife, Josie, Las Vegas; a sister, Mildred Orsbon, Wichita; two grandsons, Brian, Los Angeles, and Christopher, Medina; four granddaughters, Susan, Dublin, Calif., and Anna, Sara and Katrina, all of Medina; a great-grandson, Dylan Lopez, Dublin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Francis, Herman, Wilfred, Arthur and Cyril; and four sisters, Cecilia Leikam, Eleanor Peitz, Alberta and Mary Louise.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2646 S. 34th, Kansas City; burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS 66102.

A rosary will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
