Edward enlisted for Civil War army service, Aug. 22, 1862, in Company D, 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, at Cleveland, Ohio(Cuyahoga County) for a term of 3 years. Occupation: Farmer. He was captured, July 21, 1864 near Noyes Creek, GA during the Atlanta Campaign. Imprisoned at the prisoner of war stockade at Andersonville, GA, he survived to be released and exchanged, Dec. 1, 1864. He was transferred to Company H, 183rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, to complete his term of service to be mustered out, July, 17, 1865. Highest rank attained: Private.
