Daughter of John McMickle/McMahel and Elizabeth Tucker.
Married James Miller on 5 September 1850 in Crawford County, Indiana and they were the parents of Thomas W. born 1852, Martin S. born 1854, William M. born 1856, Nancy E. born 1858, Sarah A. born 1863 and James M. born 1866.

According to James Miller's Civil War pension papers, James died from chronic bronchitis/tuberculosis that became a lingering illness when he enlisted in the Civil War. James was at Camp Wickliffe, Bowling Green, Kentucky when he was honorably discharged for medical conditions on 24 June 1862. James died 2 June 1866 at home in Crawford County.

On 1 September 1866 Sarah married again to William Mathers in Crawford County. They were the parents of Armentha Mathers, buried in this cemetery. William died on 19 July 1899 in Crawford County, Indiana.

Sarah died in the State Soldiers Home from heart problems. She had filed for her first husband's civil war pension in 1869 and continued to draw benefits up until the time of her death.

Rev J.R. Melton has suceeded after much effort to secure a home for Mrs. Sarah Mathers in the State Soldiers Home at Lafayette. It was a deserving case and Rev Melton deserves much credit for his labor.

Mrs. Sarah Mathers, widow of the late Wm. Mathers, fell at her home on Fifth Street Saturday and sustained several severe bruises and sprains. At last reports, she was much improved.
