Siblings Gregor, Maria, Mary and Mathias Daleiden
Their childhood family in in Mettendorf, in the Rheinland-Palatinate part of the Kingdom of Prussia (in present-day (2020) Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany), immigration to America and their early life in and near New Prague, Scott County, Minnesota:

Their Childhood Family:
Father - Johann Daleiden
Born 1797 in Mettendorf; died 16 Jun 1851 in Mettendorf

Mother - Maria Johanna Weides
Born 16 Nov 1794 in Nusbaum (a neighboring town three miles from Mettendorf); died 05 Oct 1843 in Mettendorf

Johann Daleiden and Maria Weides married 08 Jan 1823 in Mettendorf. Their known children:
1) Nicholas born 20 Nov 1823 in Mettendorf; died in infancy
2) Gregor "George/Georg" born 04 Sep 1825 in Mettendorf; died 31 Jan 1888 in New Prague, Scott, Minnesota; buried St. Wencelaus Catholic Cemetery, FG 7898075; married Anna Mary Hanzel (1833-1911) in 1857 in New Prague, Scott, Minnesota
3) Maria, born 27 Dec 1827 in either Mettendorf or Lusenburg (near Mettendorf); died 15 May 1918 in New Prague, Scott, Minnesota ; buried buried St. Wencelaus Catholic Cemetery, FG 7898076; known as "Tanta Maria"; she never married
4) Maria "Mary" born 25 Sep 1830 in Mettendorf; died 08 Jun 1903 in New Prague, Scott, Minnesota; buried St. Wencelaus Catholic Cemetery, FG 121622903; married Cornelius Kehr (1830-1911) in 1855 in New Oregon, Erie, New York
5) Mathias "Michael" born 25 May 1833 in Mettendorf; died Fall 1862 in Minnesota near New Prague.

Their Immigration to America:
The Daleiden siblings' mother passes away in 1843 and their father passes away in 1851, both in Mettendorf. In 1854, enticed by advertisements of land at $1.25 per acre, Gregor (29) and his youngest sister Mary (age 24; 1830-1903) leave their hamlet of Mettendorf and emigrate to America, likely leaving from Antwerp, Belgium. After landing in New York harbor. Gregor and Mary begin their journey west. In 1855 while in New Oregon, ,Erie County, New York, they meet Cornelius Kehr also from their hamlet Mettendorf; Cornelius and Mary marry and stay in Erie County, New York until early 1862. With Mary and Cornelius married, Gregor continues on to the Minnesota Territory, earning his way there over a period of two years. Gregor settles on farmland south of the New Prague settlement about 1856-1857 and marries Anna Maria Hanzel in 1857. (On May 11, 1858, Minnesota became the 32nd state in the United States.) In 1861, Gregor strongly urges older sister Maria (age 34, 1827-1918) and brother Mathias (28) to leave Mettendorf, Prussia and join his family in New Prague. Based on land records, Gregor and his family, his oldest sister Maria and his brother Mathias are all in New Prague by September 1861. In March 1862, Cornelius and Mary Daleiden Kehr move their family from Erie County, New York to New Prague, Minnesota. Thus by 1862, all four children of Johann and Maria Weides Daleiden are settled near each other in and near New Prague.

Oral family history "tells of…Mathias in New Prague, who went into hiding to avoid going to yet another war. (His sister Maria (1827-1918)) provided survival money for him. Tragically, his life ended (in the Fall of 1862) when his gun discharged, fatally wounding him, as he climbed through a fence while hunting for food. Minnesota death records do not show his name or deathdate as state death records were not recorded until Minnesota became a state and passed that law in 1871. Also the first book of Marriages and Deaths of St. Wenceslaus Church of New Prague is lost; therefore this oral history (was recorded by Frances Roles Poferl) for his memory and record."

Credit goes to my cousin Frances Roles Poferl (1926-2011; FG 81765447), one of Gregor and Anna Hanzel Daleiden's many great-grandchildren, for almost all of the above family history as recorded in her uncopyrighted "A History of Our Family: Daleiden-Roles; The Family History of Mathias & Mary Elizabeth (Daleiden) Roles, Their Ancestors & Their Descendants", compiled 1984-1987.
