My notes of the Private Life of Rev. John Edmund Kearns, son of John Gardner and Mary Katherine (nee Settle) Kearns. John was the brother to five siblings, and shortly after graduating from school; John went on to graduated from Jefferson College, while attending college he met Louise Matilda Harris and they dated until after his college graduation, they married on 19th of August 1862. Louise Matilda Harris, daughter of John and Hannah Harris. John and Louise had six children, their first child was Elliott B. born in 1863, while studying to be a minister of the Presbyterian church, they had their second son William Harris he was born 1864, then in 1866 John was ordained as the Presbyterian minister of their town. In 1868 Louise and John welcomed their third child a girl of whom they named Adda Elizabeth. The next year in 1869 their forth child a son of whom was named James Franklin, while he was building his calling of God to become the best minister of the Presbyterian Faith, in 1871 their fifth child a daughter was born and they named her Margaret Viola. Then three years later on the 13th of June 1874 John and Louise had another daughter of whom they named Louise Grace. Louise (the mother) became sick after their daughter's birth and on the 1st of July just three weeks later at the age of 33 years, she passed away, leaving the new born without a mother and the baby only lived to be 12 weeks old, her cause of death is unknown, however, we believe the baby became sick and no one wasn't able to save her and she died on the 4th of September 1874 and is buried next to her mother.

Two years went by and John married Louise's younger sister Sarah Elizabeth. John and Sarah married on 16th of October 1876 and they had four children, one son whom they named Edmund Arthur, - born 1880, at the age of one year, for unknown reasons the child died at the age of one years old. Edmund was the middle child. as Betsy-Born 1878, was their first child, Beulah Maude - Born 1882 and Mary Olive - Born 1885. Sarah is buried in Morning Sun Cemetery in Iowa.
