The following information was provided by member Nebord #4886444:

In 1916 Dr. William H. Kearns, D.D. was called to be a Synodical Missionary for Nebraska. His work was to oversee and encourage the general mission work that took place in the state, for the Presbyterian Church. Then in 1923 he became the District Field Secretary for the denomination’s Board of National Missions and the Superintendent of National Missions in the Synod of Nebraska.
Sadly, Kearns died suddenly the evening of June 10, 1924 at age 59. He was on his way to the railroad station when his car began to skid. He stepped out of the car and began walking to a nearby residence, presumably for help, but had a heart attack and collapsed and died. This was near his home. He had been booked for an address at a Bible Conference in Scottsbluff, Nebraska the next evening. Instead of his speech, there was a memorial service in his honor.
Dr. Kearns had been graduated from Parsons College in Iowa in 1888, and from McCormick Seminary in Chicago in 1891. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Iowa in 1890, and was ordained to the ministry in 1891 by the Presbytery of Iowa City. His first charge was at Davenport, Iowa and Mt. Ida from 1891 to 1894. Then Cherokee, Iowa, 1894-1897; Jerseyville, Illinois, 18970-1900; and Beatrice, Nebraska, 1900-1908. The Synod of Nebraska discovered in Dr. Kearns marked executive ability and chose him for wider work in the Synod. (From the History of The Presbyterian Church in Nebraska, by Rev/Dr Julius F. Schwarz, 1924, page 51.)

Burial date June 13th, 1924.
