Died: Shock following thyroidectomy for toxic goiter. On July 6, 1897 he married Miss Wilhelmina Bartz. He became a member of the Columbus Fire Department when he first came to Columbus in 1897. He was the first chairman of the Firemen's Park Association and was a mighty influence in shaping the destiny and bringing Firemen's City Park to its present state (1931) of perfection. He took an active part in all civic affairs. For several years he was a member of the Common Council and held all offices except that of Mayor. He served as chairman of the Park Board for ten years and upon his resignation was made an honorary member. He had served as a member of the School Board and as a member of the Water and Light Commission and he was also a member of the Hillside Cemetery Assocation. He conducted a painting and decorating business for many years and also did extensive business in phonographs and musical instruments.
