Mr. Couzens died at home January 4, 2009, of multiple sclerosis. He was 76 years old.

The son of Arthur James Couzens and Winifred L. Lyndon Couzens, he was born in San Fernando, Oct 23, 1932.

Mr. Couzens earned his pilot's license at the age of 17 and loved flying.

He wed his high school sweetheart, Twila Gehre, in 1952 and they were married 56 years.

Mr. Couzens served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was discharged in 1954.

Coming to Yucca Valley in 1964, he became active in the local search and rescue team and joined the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department as a deputy in 1968. Mr. Couzens was stationed in Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley, but had to retire in 1977 due to an injury.

A member of Evangelical Free Church for 45 years, he sang in the choir, served on many committees, designed and ran the sound system, was business administrator at one time and did the bookkeeping for several years. He loved the Lord.
