Roger W. Brown, 78 formerly of Tioga Center and West Warren, Pa. died March 14, 2000 at the home of his daughter in Van Etten, N.Y. He was born Feb. 23, 1922 in Orwell Township, Pa. a son of the late William and Jessie (Rogers) Brown. Roger attended school in Orwell and was a graduate of Rome High School. While at school he participated with the West Warren and the Orwell/Rome baseball teams. He enjoyed golfing and hunting and was an avid race car fan. Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served his country during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 1372, Owego, N.Y. Roger is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Diane Grays, his caregiver of Van Etten, Judy and Robert Frederick of Athens, Nancy Turner of Owego and Tammy Brown of Tioga Center; daughter-in-law, Sally Brown of New Mexico; sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Brown of Athens and David and Bonnie Kimber of Halsey Valley; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Doris Brown of Cheecktowaga, N.Y.; sisters-in-law, Annie Brown and Alice Brown, both of Rome; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Harold Morris of Candor and Edna and Roy Johnson of Florida; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice (Hudson) Brown in 1969; a son, Gary Brown in 1992; granddaughter, Patricia Edwards in 1997; brothers, Irving "Bucky" Brown and Joseph Brown and a sister, Lona Vlymen. At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Jillson Cemetery. Those who wish may kindly consider a memorial contribution to Hospice-West, 5th Avenue, Owego, N.Y. or their local chapter of the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Roger W. Brown. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cooley family of the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols, N.Y. –Towanda Daily Review
