Walter C. Brown, 84, of Cheektowaga, N.Y. passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 following a long battle of cancer.
Walter was born on Oct. 13, 1918 in Orwell, Pa., a son of the late William I. and Jessie (Rogers) Brown.
Walter spent his youth in Orwell and was a graduate of Rome High School. Following his education Walter was employed as a foreman for Bell-Aircraft in Wheatfield. He proudly served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the 83rd Infantry 505th Military Police Battalion.
For over 40 years, he was a dedicated landscaper for Land O'Trees Nursery. Walter served as past president of the Batavia Go-Kart Association for which he participated in for 10 years; was an avid sports enthusiast for Maryvale High School where he was actively involved with the football and wrestling boosters.

Walter is survived by his wife of 47 years, Doris J. (Randall) Brown (formerly of Sayre, Pa) his four children: Ronnie and his wife Mary Ellen Brown of Tonawanda, N.Y.; Rhonda and her husband Robert Bartlett of Kernersville, N.C.; Sandra and her husband Bruce Mullis of Lancaster, S.C.; Gary Slusser of Bonanza, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His sisters and brother in law: Edna and Roy Johnson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and Dorothy Morris of North Carolina. His sisters in law: Annie Brown and Alice Brown of Rome, Pa and many nieces and nephews also survive. Walter was predeceased by his brothers Irving Brown, Roger Brown, Joseph Brown, a sister Lona Vlymen and grandson Toby Slusser.

Funeral services and a celebration of Walter's life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1:30 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols, N.Y., with Rev. David J. Pitcher, pastor of the West Warren Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Jillson Cemetery where full military honors by the Towanda American Legion Post #42. The family will receive their friends on Friday, Sept. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Flowers will be provided by the family and memorial contributions may be directed to their local chapter of the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Walter C. Brown. (Daily Review)
