Mary Lou Newton King, 91, of Twin Lakes Healthcare, formerly of Trail One, passed away on October 9th, 2010, at 11:05 PM.

Mrs. King was born on December 27th, 1918, in Andrews, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Walter A. and Ethel Hyatt Newton. She was married to the late Melvin Fitch King for 60 years.

Mary Lou was a member of St. John's New Mission UCC.

Survivors include a son, James (Jim) M. King (Debbie) of Elon, and daughter Lou Marilyn King of Burlington; two grandsons, Brian C. King of Raleigh, James (Jimmy) M. King, Jr. (Sandra) of Burlington; two great –grandchildren, Angel Nevaeh and Trey; one sister, Myrtle N. Sykes of Alamance; and many special nieces.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Leroy Newton, Taft Newton, Walter Newton, and Clyde Newton.

Mrs. King was an avid golfer for many years and was a past member of the Ladies Golf Association at Alamance Country Club. She was a member of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club before her illness.

She looked forward to and enjoyed the many visits from her family and friends. The family would like to thank Mrs. King's nieces for their support, love and care that they gave to her during her stay at Twin Lakes. She truly loved each and every one of them.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and aides of Twin Lakes Healthcare for the superior care that their mother received during her stay. They would also like to thank Hospice and the homecare givers for the support and kindness they gave during her illness.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 12th, 2010, at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:45 PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery
