He was born on May 8, 1926 in Montrose, Colo. He enlisted in the Navy on May 6, 1941 and served on a submarine in WWII. He was honorably discharged on April 30, 1947. He belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers.
James is survived by his wife Ionia; son James W. (Debbie) Byrd, of Libby; Montana, brother; Lee (Jeanie) Byrd, of Weed, Calif.; sister Erma Sweat, of Salt Lake City; and numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A small dinner for family and close friends was held in Jim's honor. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary
