Herman Glenn Easter of El Cajon, California, formerly of Hollis, died recently in California. Born in Harmon County, Oklahoma, Herman grew up attending school and working the family farm, hiring out to neighboring farms when able. He was the son of Nellie Frazier Easter and J Major Easter. He grew up during the Depression and experienced the Dust Bowl first hand.

Herman joined the Navy on May 16, 1941 prior to the outbreak of WWII and was in Diesel School at Dearborn, Michigan when news of Pearl Harbor reached the USA. Subsequently assigned to a destroyer, the USS Buchanan DD 484, he saw action at Guadalcanal/Tulagi, Rabaoul Cape Esperance, Southern Solomons, Bouganville, Kolumbangara, Rendova, Kula Gulf and other battles in the South Pacific. At Cape Esperance, the Buchanan was credited with sinking one Japanese Destroyer and one Japanese Crusier. After his outstanding military career he was active in community affairs in El Cajon with his wife. He married Dorothy Hysmith b: 16 MAY 1915 d: 28 APR 1996 in Eldorado, Kansas where she was teaching school. She continued her teaching in El Cajon.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Linda and Bob and Debbi; one daughter and son-in-law Elaine and Al Culbertson; two brothers, Henry and Dorothy and Homer and LaRaine; a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Al Riecken. five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Gould Baptist Church C/O Mrs LaVerne Williams, Rt l, Box 214, Gould, OK. His last wishes were cremation and scattering at sea. Neptune Society.
