The funeral Mass for Henry C. Easter will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, with the Rev. Richard J. Dernek officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lake City, with Lake City VFW Post 8729 and Lake City American Legion Post 110 providing military rites.

Mr. Easter, 89, of Lake City, died Thursday (Sept. 4, 2008) at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha.

Henry Cleveland Easter was born March 15, 1919, in Gould, Okla. He attended rural Oklahoma elementary schools and graduated from high school in Hollis, Okla. He married Dorothy Carlin on March 6, 1948, in Clear Lake, Minn.

Mr. Easter served in the Navy from May 16, 1939, to Sept. 10, 1959, during World War II and the Korean War. During his service, he was stationed mainly in La Mesa, Calif. He attended Naval schools, became an instructor at the Naval Welding School, and was a Navy Deep Sea Diver. He participated in the recovery of military pilots' remains at various locations in Colorado and Arizona. He also did underwater welding on disabled Navy vessels.

Following his retirement from the service, Mr. Easter was a plumbing contractor in Prescott, Ariz. He retired in 1980, and he and his wife moved to Lake City in 2002. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, Lake City VFW Post 8729 and Lake City American Legion Post 110, and enjoyed hunting and water-skiing.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Pam (William) Beaulieu of Rochester, Mary (Edward) LaBrash of Lake City and Rita Anne (Gerard) Lawlor of Chandler, Ariz.; four sons, William of Vista, Calif., Alan (Kathy) of Sacramento, Calif., Brian of Chandler and Barry (Tracy) of Austin, Texas; 25 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Riecken of Clear Lake, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maj. Jessie and Nellie (Frazier) Easter; and a son, Donald.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and an hour before the service Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. There will be a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
