ARVILLA was born February 18, 1845, near Woodstock, Ohio. She was the twin daughter of Calvin and Sarah (Hawkins) Dresser. When she was 10 years old, the family removed from Ohio to Postville, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. She was one of a family of 13 children, five sons and eight daughters. Of this family only three remain. Her twin sister, Mrs. Henry Webb, still living at Postville, Iowa, Mrs. Harriet Bayliss, also of Postville, and Mrs. Jane Hagensick of Elkader, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Robert McCready, October 6, 1867. In the spring of 1869, they came to Cherokee County to build a home in this new country. They had received money as a wedding gift from her parents to purchase the land which had no buildings. Their first task was to build a house in addition to planting crops. They "set up" their temporary home by living in their wagon and when the weather was good they slept under the wagon. Here they lived for many years and raised their family. About 20 years ago they retired to Cherokee, where they have since resided. To this union were born four children. One daughter died in infancy. Those remaining are A.R. McCready, Hartley, Iowa; Mrs. John Klema, Holstein, Iowa, and Mrs. Lucy Smith, Cherokee, Iowa; also 14 grandchildren. There with a host of friends remain to mourn her passing. She was buried Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Presbyterian Church. Interment was at Oak Hill.
